All Change Please

So... confirming that nothing in life ever runs according to plan (which is usually the norm for us believe me!), the sunny shores of California are going to have to wait a little while longer, as at the relative last minute, we are no longer off to San Jose! Instead, the dark forests (and the Bier Kellers!!) of Bavaria await us, and will be our home for the next couple of years! At least it is closer to home and I don't have to get rid of any snow gear I suppose! Having never been to Munich, if anyone has any pointers (other than instructing me to learn yet another interesting language), I would be truly grateful!

I look forward to mostly eating these on an everyday basis: -

Photograph courtesy of Write Click Cook Listen - this really original blog features some pretty good recipes, and is definitely worth a look, peanut butter stuffed chocolate coated chilli peppers anyone?

PS.   If you are moving to San Jose, (or know someone that is) and are looking for a fantastic relocation expert who really knows her stuff, (and is one of those people you feel like you have known forever when you speak to them), I can really recommend Jo Robertson.  She is really lovely and knowledgeable, and I am just so sorry we won't get to meet her this time around.

  3. Of course Munich is only a heartbeat away form north Italy....Lake Garda is a 3 hour drive away, gelato, vino, sole, surf. When I'm in Folgaria, I'll give you a shout, you never know xx jawohl

  8. Oh my goodness, I can't keep up with you.

Munich may well be on our list of city breaks so I'll give it a few months and then you can give me the lowdown again! It's like having my very own Baedeker ;-)

  9. ahh I have been singing "do you know the way to San Jose" everytime I see your name. I suppose I will have to start humming baravian folk music and slapping people (have you seen National Lampoon european vacation?!). I have a German friend who has just relocated to Munich from here. She has very good English, if you would like a contact 'on the ground'. I love Germany, the people and the culture. It suits my nature very well. I hope you like it too. Now, are you ready "die die der der das das den dem" !!

  10. @Trish - thanks Trish! I can't keep up with us either at times! Give me a few months to get clued up and then come and meet me in a bier garten!!!! :)

@Kellogsville. For once, I have no ear worm on this one. Eidelweiss did surface for a while but I managed to forget it (until now!!!).. That would be fabulous if you don't mind (and your friend doesn't mind of course!)... Thanks so much! Emma PS. No I am not ready for die die der der das dan den dem. I am currently studying 1000 first words in German which was meant for the children!!

  11. Bavaria is so beautiful (as I'm sure is San Jose!). Good luck, it's a big old world and sounds as though you're getting to see a lot of it.

  12. Ahh good luck with the move. Munich is a beautiful city and the Bavarian countryside immense, fresh and perfect for hilly walks ending in a cold weissbier at the top. Their metro system is super, locals very friendly (but seem to be stuck in the 80s) and I'm sure you'll pick up the language very quickly!

  16. If I had the choice between the two places I'd definitely choose Bavaria over California - even with the language to learn. I look forward to hearing all about it when you have the time. Good luck for a smooth and successful move and new life.

  25. Gosh, that really is an about-turn. I don't know anything about Munich other than that my husband had his stag do there and loved it (despite incurring a dancefloor-related injury - idiot). Hope it's not all too unsettling, though I guess it must be.

  26. @Becky - thank you... Moving is always a pain isn't it?!

@Primrose Hill - thank you! An all about turn indeed! Very pleased to hear your husband had a good time on his stag do though, I am also looking forward to the bier that may have contributed to his injury, it's supposed to be the best in the world!!
